A regional grocery story has a very active Facebook page with many people requesting that the stores carry this or that.

So today someone requested they carry non-organic fire roasted tomatoes because "I don't buy organic." It got several thumbs up from other customers.

Is this a "thing?" Is there now a problem with organic food?

I think the "problem" with organic food lies in the cost differential and the fact that the term is basically meaningless and unregulated.

I think it's a problem with Facebook.

I guess price could be the problem, but when that's the case, they usually ask if they can get a cheaper store brand. I thought this woman was specifically avoiding organic stuff.

And I didn't realize it was unregulated. I thought the food that has a USDA Organic seal on the packaging was legit?

There's nothing wrong with organic foods other than probably the price. I don't want to pay more if I don't have to. And it's already canned, so the damage is there. LOL (tinned tomatoes supposedly is a big no no)

And people are suspicious about if it's organic or not. I am hesitant unless I recognize the grower or grow it myself in my garden. We just had a high end butcher shop get busted for selling meat that wasn't grass fed/organic/local etc. I myself had gone to that store and purchased something. Now I feel like I was ripped off, royally. I think people are reading about that and not wanting to pay more for something that may or may not be organic.

I usually don't seek out organic food, but some of the things I like to cook with are (like the roasted tomatoes I use in tortilla soup). Making a statement that she never buys organic (she'd deliberately bypass the roasted tomatoes and buy the regular kind) seems weirdly fussy.

Organic is overpriced and no healthier than any other food. Your body doesn't know the difference.

Because in most cases it's not needed, is a scam and is no more healthy than non-orangic.

My neighbor loaded me up with maters from her garden yesterday. Them is organic. Compost for fertilizer and BT For pest control.
We give her lemons all fall winter and spring and she gives us maters, squash and a few other items during summer late fall.

We buy cage free eggs from our ranching neighbor across the street.

Increasingly, organic foods are not a lot more expensive than conventionally grown vegetables and fruits.

I by them whenever possible. I buy eggs from a person who I know who raises her chickens humanely and the eggs are organic.

Since more people are buying organic, non organic food producers are fighting back with rhetoric filled with misinformation.

Makers of GMO foods have commercials on television. It's not easy to figure out why.
