I entered a contest at Food Lion a few weeks ago and won $250. at Kitchen Connection. Today, hubby and I went browsing to see what I wanted to buy. I got a cast iron skillet (my first), a lemon squeezer, and a toaster. I only spent $79. Not sure what else I'll get.
First and foremost a kick butt food processor that does everything but cook the food for me. Wide mouth, large capacity with an interchangeable smaller bowl, several speeds and lots of blade options.
and btw, congrats on the win!
Toaster oven!! So handy for things that fit in there rather than heat up the full size oven. I don't know what types of things Kitchen Connection sells but pots, pans, etc. that may be better quality (and last much longer/forever)?
You first cast iron? It's going to take a while to make that grandma's cast iron pan. I have two spatulas and I hate both of them, so I'd buy those. Well, two for pans and two rubbery scrapers. They all need to be replaced.
I would get a really good meat thermometer and candy thermometer. Good kitchen scales that do both metric and imperial. Maybe a couple of excellent quality knives.
id buy a first class sharp forschner victronix knife
then an electric grinder off ebay, they have these 69.00 very rugged 2600 watt ones that you can grind your own ground beef, pork and chicken, and save lots of money
these grinders will grind a bone in chicken leg bone and all,,,so they re rugged..
