We have a supermarket brand called Crystal. I like their Mint Chocolate Chip. We also have Humboldt Creamery , expensive and organic, which may be in some of your stores because they make it primarily for export. A lot of it goes to Japan.

I used to love B&J's Americone Dream, but had to give it up due to gluten intolerance. Now on the rare occasion that I get something at the store, it's usually one of the Talenti Gelatos, usually the Caribbean Coconut or the Sea Salt Caramel.

I like it to be REAL also. None of that cheap stuff that actually says, "Frozen dairy dessert" because it can't be labeled as ice cream.
I completely agree that it has to taste good enough to be worth the calories. I tend to eat more ice cream in the summer due to some really, really hot days. Nothing's better than beating the heat with a scoop of great tasting (and quality) ice cream and maybe a dip in the pool.

That's interesting that Humboldt Creamery (which I've never heard of before here in the Northeast but I love great ice cream so I'll be looking for it) exports to Japan. Do you know of any specific reason for that?

Ben & Jerry's used to have a flavor called Wavy Gravy. It was some of the best ice cream I ever had. Which, of course, meant it had to be discontinued.

Baskin Robbins Peanut Butter & Chocolate is my absolute fave, but I do not live near one anymore, so it's a special treat when I visit family back home. their Rocky Road is also great.

Graeter's Mint Chocolate Chip is pretty good, in a pinch.

By Haagen Das, I think it's called Dulce de leche. It's vanilla ice cream with swirls of really sweet, luscious caramel throughout. Sometimes you find the mother lode of sweet caramel somewhere in the middle.

My grocery store favorite is Dean's Chocolate. I'm very easy going that way.

If I'm going for what I consider really GOOD stuff, Oberweis Chocolate Chip is wonderful, as is their Chocolate. But I haven't had that stuff in awhile.
