Are berries considered fruit, or are berries just berries?
Are strawberries a fruit?
Anything containing seeds is technically a fruit. That means that berries, tomatoes, peppers and squash are all classified as fruits. A vegetable is any edible part of the plant that does not contain seeds.
The strawberry is the only fruit that has the seeds on the outside.

I know mushrooms are a fungus, but are they also considered a vegetable?
Another question: I know mushrooms are a fungus, but are they also considered a vegetable?
Considered by most people, yes, it's in the produce/vegetable aisle.
mushrooms are technically considered fungi. Because they have no leaves, roots or seeds and don't need light to grow, they are not a true vegetable. The U.S. Department of Agriculture does classify mushrooms as vegetables because they provide many of the nutritional attributes of vegetables.
And this is where it gets REALLY confusing, boys and girls. In English, "meat" was originally two words. There's 'meat' as in steak, and 'meat' as in "the edible part of this object" -- think sweetmeats (which are candies), or nut meats.
But wait, there's more! What you and I would call organ meats -- kidneys, liver, etc. -- used to be call "offal" in the days when "meat" was two different words that sounded alike. They didn't count as meats. And many people would agree that eating liver or kidneys is, you know, perfectly offal.
Except the offal known as "sweetbreads," the thymus and pancreas of the poor animal, which obviously count as bread.

Now I'm beginning to feel slightly ill...
