For the last couple of years, I have had a very hard time finding hazlenuts/filberts. Even around the holidays, I am only finding them in the open bins with a mixture of unshelled walnuts, pecans, and almonds. Never on their own, and never after the holidays. Is anyone else having this issue? Is it because I live in S. Florida and they aren't shipping, or do I need to go to some specialty store? It's getting so frustrating, I'm most likely going to end up ordering them from Amazon.

I was on the prowl for some today - no luck. I'm going to use almonds in the lebkuchen and just hope it turns out.
I live in Canada and we do have them in Bulk stores.Kathryn I use almonds in my Lebkuchen due to my son's allergies against hazelnuts amd they do turn out perfect and delicious

If you have a Trader Joes nearby, try there. They usually have a large selection of bagged nuts, many varieties and choices of roasted/dry roasted/raw/salt/no salt/various specialty seasonings/etc , prices usually better than specialty stores like whole paycheck and sprouts. I think I saw hazelnuts there but I was buying pistachios so I wasn't looking

Oh that's good to know!
I couldn't find any candied citron either, so I'm making some from orange and lemon peel tonight. Hope it turns out and I bet it does!
Almrausch, you would like our Christmas dinner. We're making brotchen from scratch -- the recipe swears the rolls will turn out chewy on the inside and crusty on the outside SO THEY BETTER. I can't find any bread quite like brotchen here.
I found some "real" German bratwurst today, so we're also having that, as well as red cabbage and hot potato salad and then later we're going to have latkes with sour cream and applesauce and gluwein. I am really hoping for some cooler temps so we can build a fire in the fire pit and sit around and sip gluwein - it really needs to be cold to really enjoy that stuff.

Ah, gluvein. It tastes better in Germany, doesn't it?
