I love Brunswick stew - the type I'm familiar with is the central Georgia style the OP described. FANTASTIC.

Had some for the very first time at mary macs tea room in Atl.
I had no clue what it was...Ordered it,tasted it,
Then I asked the waitress what kind of meat??
Pork!
I had to pass. It sure was damn good though.
We don't eat pork, and I didn't think to ask ?

When I was a little kid I asked my Tar Heel Uncle Deenybug how he made his famous Brunswick Stew. He said "First you have to find and catch a Big Ol Brunswick, pick its feathers and cook it just right." Turned me off instantly.

But the best recipes my family made had shredded chicken, pork AND beef with veggies and was delicious. I make it from leftovers. In fact I have in my freezer now some pork loin and chicken leftovers waiting for me to get enough to make. I just might try it this weekend.

I have always heard that originally Brunswick stew was made with a hogs head and squirrel.

I've always made my Brunswick Stew with ham and chicken, add corn, lima beans, potatoes, tomatoes, some Worcestershire....YUM!!

The first time I had it was in Virginia. And that's pretty much the only way I've ever tasted it.

Default Who loves Brunswick Stew?

I am a Georgia native and Brunswick Stew goes in the same sentence with BBQ. You don't serve one without the other.

For the last 12 years I have been in Texas (Dallas burbs specifically) and while I have had some awesome BBQ here (have almost converted to preferring brisket over pork) I miss some good old fashioned Brunswick stew.

I have asked twice on the Dallas forum for any info of where I could find some. Native Texans have no clue as to what I am talking about. The only place that I have found that serves it is the chain Red Hot and Blue. But it is Memphis style... big chunks of potatoes... not the finer stew that I am used to from Georgia and the Carolinas.

What other areas are known for Brunswick stew? And if anyone can give me a clue to where I can get Brunswick stew... even within a couple of hours of Dallas... please let me know!

I love it. It is very easy to make and I don't add several meats as many of the recipes call for. I just use chicken.

Pull up a recipe and make it!
