BENTONVILLE, Ark. (AP) -- Retailer Wal-Mart Stores Inc. said Friday its Great Value private-label milk brand is now being produced with cows that have not been treated with artificial growth hormones.

This is fine as long as people realize that BST is a naturally occuring hormone in dairy cows, so the hormone is generally present in the milk. They are speaking of additional hormone being injected into the cows.

can you elaborate? are you saying that the milk that says "hormone free is just free of the nturally occuring hormone in milk? they charge extra for hormone free milk--are we being taken for a ride?
Milk is not hormone free. Hormones occur naturally. Milk can be free of artificial hormones. The r in rBST is recombinant. rBST is made in a lab. There are objections to animals being treated with artificial hormones to force them to produce more milk than they naturally produce.
