Did anybody name the ubiquitous spinach dip yet? With artichokes or without, hot or cold...it's all good.

I thought the pilgrims brought the ham all the way from England?

Even though casserole is a French word, I think of casseroles as standard American fare. Dump an affordable type of meat (ground beef, tuna, etc.) in with a canned or frozen vegetable, type of pasta, smother in cheese or a cream-of-X soup, top with bread crumbs, and bake. Maybe add eggs as a binder and to make it more filling.
I love a good casserole/bake/hotdish (if you're Minnesotan). But I'm not fond of the noodle/pasta-based ones. I prefer rice-based ones and potato-based ones.

Green Bean casserole, made with Cream of Mushroom soup and smothered with those crispy onions. We just have to make that twice a year.

Wait, I don't wanna hear it.

^^ I love that stuff.

Also, Buffalo-style chicken wings are pretty ubiquitously American, being birthed, as they were, in Western NY.

When I hear rice-base casserole I think of the one with broccoli and cheese. Yum.

Typically fried meat, lots of cheese,a good portion of white bread,a side of deep fried starch and a jug of fizzy sugar water to wash it down.
