Walleye and fries, the Friday Special.

Midwestern Sunday dinner of roast beef, mashed potatoes, peas and a garden salad made with wilted iceberg lettuce, a few pink beefsteak tomato slices, and topped with french dressing.

Fried chicken with mashed potatoes and cut green beans.

Jello for desert.

Watermelon for picnics and the 4th of July.

And don't forget the zucchini that everyone grows in their garden then gives away and no one eats.

And the fruitcake that we all give one another for Christmas and no one eats.

There's a great Dirty Jobs episode about making scrapple. Takes place in Delaware, I think. Now that you know about scrapple, you can move on to the similar goetta, which is popular in southwest Ohio.

There's a Burgoo festival annually in a small community near my hometown.

Legit fish fry is what I miss the most about Wisconsin.

No?
I'm not aware of any self-respecting Southern cook who makes fried chicken with boneless, skinless breasts. Maybe they're out there.

If in College Park area of Atlanta, definitely try the fried chicken and crispy collards at the Feed Store. Delicious. And with bones and skin.

Minnesota girl here......walleye and wild rice, and super sweet corn on the cob. You can't get better fish than walleye, anywhere. In summer, a good steak, salad, and corn on the cob. Tradional Thanksgiving dinner and home made wild rice stuffing, no Stove Top. Casseroles aka hotdish.....ok in winter. Wanna go with Lutheran church basement traditions, add green jello with carrots and marshmallows on top. Not my favorite, but definitely original USA. No one vacations in MN for that.

Yeah, gonna have to pass.....from the little I read, the fact that there's an episode on "dirty jobs" about it doesn't surprise me.

had forgotten all about Jello. When I think of it all I think is what we have to eat the day before a that horrible procedure we all have every 10 years or the diet they give you after surgery but yes, as a child we all ate plenty of jello, fixed a million ways.
