Attached: Costco always sells things in big quantity, and I have only one person.

Can it last one week? Do I need to store them in refrigerator?

Thanks.

It should last a week or two in a cool dry place. It will be less fresh and become stale in time. No need to refrigerate. Long term storage you would freeze it. Depends on the bread and how fresh it was when you bought it. We don't generally keep any more than a week or so.

If buying in bulk keep out what you can use in 3 or 4 days and freeze the rest until more are needed.

I try to use any bread as quickly as possible and before the expiration date because I'm afraid of biting into mold. It's just a fear of mine.

One week or so = fridge
Over 1 week = freezer

White bread lasts longer than whole grain bread. I know people who bought Wonder Bread just because it lasted weeks without getting moldy.

The better the bread the quicker it molds. Multi grain bread, sprouted wheat bread, and other healthy breads should be refrigerated or frozen.

I use sprouted 7-grain bread from Angelic Bakehouse and keep it in the freezer. It only takes a few minutes to thaw slices before using, and it stays fresh and tasty.

It's better not to put bread in the refrigerator. It gets stale very fast in there. Either leave it on the counter for a few days, or freeze it if you need to keep it longer. Frozen bread thaws so quickly that it's not a problem.

Some of the cheaper breads still have preservatives, so they last longer. Whole grain molds faster, but it depends somewhat on the temperature & humidity of the area. In Hawaii or bread always molded within 5 days.

The fridge will keep your bread from spoiling but will cause it to go stale almost immediately.

It is a trade off.

I haven't eaten regular bread in years. We eat Ezikial which is wheat free, sprouted grain and must be kept in the freezer or spoils immediately.

We once had some bread from a hostess store, it had passed the expiration date and was being sold for animal feed. We got a whole trunk full for $5. Once we got it home we stored it in an old freezer that was turned off.
Each bag had a slit cut in it when we got it so it was open to the air, it lasted for ever. After 3 months we still had bread with no signs of mould.

Since then I make my own bread, no loaf should need 21 ingredients just too many additives and preservatives to be anything close to healthy.

My cousin buys the bagels at Costco, same brand, and freezes them immediately. She wraps each one individually and then places them in a freezer bag. For commercial factory produced bagels, they are not terrible when reheated in the toaster oven. I have frozen authentic NYC bagels from Kossar's, Russ & Daughters, etc. and have not had a problem. And, when I have ordered from Just Bagels in the 4 dozen variety packs, I have not had an issue freezing them. Some Whole Foods have Just Bagels, but some do not, so it depends upon region. A bagel is pretty forgiving of freezing and reheating, whereas I tend to want bread that is fresher.
