Sicilian oil-cured black olives -- they're intense, with a deep winey taste.

I too have never met an olive I did not like. I had olives stuffed with blue cheese once. They were divine! I had a friend who's made stuffed Sicilian olives with Bread crumbs cheese and garlic.

Green ones that you pick and brine yourself. Nothing better in the world. I had 2 huge olive trees at one of my properties and an old Italian man would pick them, brine them and give me 1/2 the batch. Delicious! I've never had better olives since. Castlevetranos are a distant second, but very good for store bought. I prefer Mezzetta brand with the pits in. Costco sells a huge jar at a great price, but they are pitless.

I like Kalamata olives quite a bit. The best olives I've ever had though were these ones I bought from a grocery store called Seabra years ago. I don't know what kind they were, but they were smallish, green, rather firm, and had the most pleasant flavor to them. They were from Portugal and they weren't expensive, the packaging was pretty unremarkable. I wish I could remember the name of the brand.

My local Trader Joe's sells them - just regular, with pits. Nothing stuffed in them.

I've been meaning to go back and stock up, as TJs doesn't always keep things in stock consistently.

Now that I'm reading this thread, I think I will go tomorrow.

The only place around here that I regularly see them is the olive bar at Whole Foods. The $11/per pound price tag makes me gag.
