I cant stand how people get hung up on presentation. its food not a work of art. putting things ontop of food just for color and whatever is the most stupidest things. I have even seen the food channel cooks put green chives in corndog batter to add something healthy. when im eating a corndog im not interested in something healthy.
you go to a place that gives you tiny portions but cost 50 dollars because its "pretty" how stupid the whole food industry has gotten.
It's not new, and it didn't start with Food Network.
Yeah, I mean you should just take that Thanksgiving dinner and throw it in a blender; it tastes the same, who cares how it looks.
That's not what I ment and you know it. Chefs they get all hung up on how it has to look perfect and whatever. They put garnish on things that doesnt add anything to the overall taste. Just putting something on top to make it "pretty" is stupid.

Why, exactly? How is it hurting you?
Ok - I'm editing this only because that came across way snarkier than I intended - I apologize.
I too get somewhat annoyed at what I consider to be "over presentation" that you are probably referring to, however, that's the trade off you make when you go to a restaurant that DOES that. If you don't like it, go to a different restaurant. Then again, when I want high caliber food, I'm going to get high caliber presentation. It's a trade off. At least I know Denny's won't be "bamming" my biscuits and gravy with any special foams or emulsions or flowers or whatever.

I prefer to dine at restaurants where presentation is just as important as flavor. High-end sushi bars spend a tremendous amount of effort on presentation. Sometimes food really is art.
People who think they can cook everything better, and criticize everyone's cooking should cook their own food and eat at home. When they decide to go out and eat food cooked by others, they should accept the "inferiority" without overly analyzing it.
Boy, isn't that the truth. I hate people who think they are just a tab better than the next person, no matter what the think they are better at doing. I consider myself a pretty darn good cook, it is one of the few things I think I am good at and I love my kitchen, but when I go out I usually enjoy my meal, don't pick apart what the chef has worked hard to prepare for us and I love not having to clean up the kitchen. I thing people who are overly critical are insecure with themselves.
Sometimes it seems to me-- and maybe to some of you?-- that the world's become over-complicated and I long for simplicity.
Food has become, in some cases, too, too precious (over-wrought) for me. I love fresh ingredients, prepared with a minimum of fuss, and a nice use of fresh herbs.
Sure, a lovely presentation is always nice--it teases the appetite-- but IMHO, it's secondary to the quality of the fresh ingredients. I want to taste the freshness -- even if it's as basic as a pedestrian Yukon Gold potato, with a bit of real butter and fresh parsley and a simple sprinkle of salt and pepper.
Less can be more when it comes to food. Quality speaks for itself -- it doesn't have to be tortured or contrived into works of food art all the time.
Sometimes excellent comfort food trumps culinary silliness of trendiness.
