My mom always made a chili bar on Halloweens growing up, and we loved it.
Homemade chili offered with dishes of sour cream, grated cheddar, green onion, and chopped tomato, as well as baskets of tortilla chips/Fritos and saltines and/or other crackers. It's also nice with tortillas for chili cheese burritos.
I love, love, love this idea! Chili's easy to make, cheap, feeds a crowd, perfect for a chilly fall. All of the ingredients can be tossed in a huge crock pot and can cook all day, so no stressful cooking when trying to pull the party together. Easy to keep hot in a crock pot.

That is exactly what my daughter did and now that she, hubby, and their 2 daughters plus their spouses and kids live here, she does it. She just takes it to their house.
Debsi what chili recipe do you use for the chili bar?
I'll try to find and post mom's recipe soon, but you could make any chili! There's an active chili thread in the recipe forum right now.
My family's main chili recipe is of the ground beef, kidney beans, maybe pinto beans, and tomato variety. For me, the secret ingredient is a can of beer (can be cheap - Mom uses Coors Light). You will find arguments from many Texans that chili with beans is not chili, but whatever.
Both kinds of chili are delicious, but the kind with beans is much better for feeding a group on a budget.

Hi Debsi! I'm actually gonna be doing your idea! I was wondering if when you got a chance that you could post the chili recipe? Thanks
