My 11 cup Cuisinart finally died after 12 years of faithful service:>) The safety switch in the handle of the bowl is past Gorilla Glue and duct tape, a replacement is around 45$. My gut feeling is that the rest is on the brink as well. Blades and discs are looking for a home.

I use it for chopping nuts, bread, occasionally dried fruit and butter; grinding cheese. The KitchenAid handles everything else. SO wants the biggest and badest machine. I do not even need an 11 cup model.

What are your suggestions based on experience? Thank you.

I just have a little $20 Black and Decker food processor. I use it to chop nuts and cauliflower. It's not quite as easy to clean as the more expensive models, but it's cheap enough that replacing it if I ever need to won't feel like an investment and it's not fancy enough to need a place of honor on my countertop, so it just gets stuck in a cupboard until I need it.

Were you talking about kneading bread dough with it or chopping cooked bread? I use the KitchenAid to knead bread dough. It does a great job, much better than my tired old arms could do. I just use the blender to chop bread, if I need bread crumbs for something. I tear the bread into chunks and drop them through the hole in the lid while the blender is running.

I was going to suggest a B & D as well. They are cheap and effective and they should last a long time. The 8 cup models start around $25

I happen to be a Cuisinart lover so am a bit partial. I have 4 food processors; three are Cuisinart. The other a B and D. one is 16 cup, used pretty much just when I can; 1 is 8 cup, which is the BandD and the other 2 are a 4 cup and 2 cup. I am happy with all of them, but seem to like the 4 cup Cuisinart the best.

Just chopping nuts/bread and shredding cheese. My blender joined the food processor when it saw the extra work load. I locked the KitchenAid up!

Do you have shred discs for the two smaller Cuisinart? Grating cheddar is my main use. Thank you!

Now I know what happens when you lock two food processors in the cabinet:>)

The lights are low, the music drifts in from the corners, and Boom! Baby food processors?

Mine's a Wolfgang Puck, which I believe is made by Kitchen Aid. I lurves it. It's strong and quiet and it's PURPLE (eggplant). Mine's the larger one, but they do make a smaller version. And all the blades & whatnot store in its drawer.

After 3 smaller cheaper food processors (one Cuisinart "Duo" and 2 B&D), I splurged on the "biggest and baddest" I could find, which was a Cuisinart 14 cup -- and I have never been sorry.

I thought it might be overkill, but I use it almost every day. It is so easy to use and clean.

IMO, go for it!
