I am well aware of the Minion method and what it is used for. In my case, I do this when cooking in my weber kettle and using charcoal. I need more coals than what the chimney holds. I do also use this method to light a pile of charcoal or wood in my offset smoker which is indirect. I mostly use wood in my offset and initially light a good sized fire, let it heat up, let it cool down, then add my meat. When I need to keep the fire going I add wood or charcoal. So for me the minion method is about keeping the fire going. I hope this makes sense, LOL
