If I am correct instant coffee is sort of a second best to any kind of home brewed or coffee shop brewed coffee. But maybe that has changed or maybe something can be added to instant coffee that makes it more like a brewed coffee. Any ideas?

I was never a fan of instant coffees at all until I tried the Starbuck Vias. They taste less like instant and more like brewed than anything I've tried previously. I usually travel with them because they are better than what you can make in those little pots in hotel rooms. I wouldn't choose them over brewed, but it's an acceptable substitute when I need them.

I agree. I'm not a coffee drinker, so when my sister comes to visit I stock up on the the Starbucks Via and she really likes it.

I don't think that any instants rival brewed coffee.

However, I find some instant cappuccinos okay. I always have a box of them in the house for when I don't have time to brew. I rotate regularly between Caffe D'Vita, Bustelo, and Folgers instant cappuccino mixes.

Three-in-ones man. The only way to go when you can't get brew, we lived on that stuff in Asia.

I'm not sure if something can be added to instant coffee that makes it more like a brewed coffee, but in our house, we actually like instant coffee; especially my husband, as that's how he makes his own cup of coffee in the morning, as I'm never up when he is, and he uses and prefers the Maxwell House brand. While I like Maxwell House Instant Coffee, I also like Folgers and Yuban Instant Coffee as well.

I can honestly say I have never tasted any instant coffee.
My Grandfather drank Sanka when I was a child and it really is the only brand of instant coffee I know of.
Is there a new and improved brand or way to prepare than the Sanka?

Instant pretty much never tastes like brewed, but it also doesn't all taste bad.

I don't use it much, but my husband always brings loads of the little single-serve tubes back whenever he's stationed in Korea. He also gets an instant tea that's much the same, usually in Singapore or Taiwan.
