You're not hijacking! I made mine last night, so everyone is now free to suggest side dishes. I think potatoes and carrots would be great with it. Maybe some hot rolls...yum!
I can only deal with boiled cabbage, not boiled corned beef. Potatoes and carrots is a common thing my family does. It's got to be red potatoes.
As far as this meal, corned beef and cabbage is an English dish. The Irish would have used pork, not beef.
Anyone have any corned beef recipes they would like to share? Any and all would be appreciated from main dishes to appetizers! With cabbage or without!
Hi Kats, I put it in a large pot with the spices that are included and cover it in water for at least 4-5 hours, simmering it slowly. I do add cabbage too.
We love it, it's so tender, no knife needed.
I prefer it oven roasted.Cooking time/temp is on the bag. I also oven roast the cabbage with brown sugar and onions. My son will actually put cabbage in his mouth and swallow it when its made this way.
Kats-I put it in a dutch oven, bottle of beer, water to cover, bay leaves, peppercorns, 5 crushed cloves of garlic, an onion cut in half. Bring to a light boil, reduce and simmer 4-5 hrs.
Cabbage-I fry bacon, onions, add chopped cabbage, salt/pepper, bottle of beer, tabasco. Cover and simmer.
