I bought some frozen, and I really like it. Nice mild flavor, good price, no waste. Then I heard about how it is raised and got grossed out. Now I am on the fence but leaning way over toward not getting it anymore (maybe substituting wild-caught cod or other fish).
Curious on other people's opinion?
Mine does have the HACCP seal, whatever that is worth.
Oh my God, no.
Nor any other farm-raised fish....not even from Whole Foods....'consciously farm-raised'.
If people had seen the 3 reports from 20/20, 60 Min or PBS
they would not either.
But if you haven't seen these...I get the 'head in the sand' effect
of still eating them, I do.
What the inspectors said themselves was enough for me.
I love fish generally (cod, salmon, tuna, catfish, trout, halibut, yellowtail, etc), but will consume tilapia if served. Just don't have much experiences preparing it.
I think tilapia tastes muddy. Even spicing it up doesn't help the flavor.
Yep.
As to farm raised, and I haven't seen the reports referenced, if you want to eat fish then it's either that or rapidly depleting wild caught stocks, which is what happened to orange roughy.

This is true too, wild fish are being over-fished, at a rapid rate. I read about some new fish finder, that will catch the entire shoal of fish, leaving none behind to reproduce, as was done in the past. This is bad news for the Oceans, as well as the fish.
