Papa John's blames poor restaurant sales on bad NFL ratings | Fox News
The chain isn't attributing its worse-than-predicted performance to less-than-stellar pies. According to Chief Operating Officer and Papa John’s International Inc. president Steve Ritchie, National Football League ratings over the last season played a major role in weakening sales.

“We’ve seen ratings down 8 percent for the season,” Ritchie said during an earnings call Wednesday. “We’ve made a significant investment in the NFL. An 8-percent decline in ratings played a small factor in some of our performance.

At one time I was a strong fan of Papa John's. The local franchise apparently went out of business and I longed for a good Papa John"s Pizza. They returned to our area after a few years and I believe they changed their sauce recipe. If sales are not stellar I believe that is the reason. When they returned I eagerly bought a pizza. Have not bothered with them since.
Not sure whether this belongs in Food forum or current events forum.

Yeah, that's it. Shift the blame to anything except the quality and value of your pizza which to anybody else would be the most obvious reason.

I can't stand Papa John's pizza. Their sauce is far too sweet.

Their quality has tanked. Six, seven years ago, it was my go-to delivery. Recipes changed, though, and it's barely edible.

Instead of accepting responsibility and making possible changes to their product & service, they blame NFL ratings. I had Papa John's a few times and frankly, not impressed.

I used to love Papa John's and we ordered it once a week. The last time I ordered it, I happened to peel off the cheese and saw that there was a big black fly baked into the pizza. Since then, I haven't had any urge to order Papa John's. Homemade pizza costs half as much and I know there are no flies in it.

PJ's runs discounts every time either Nats or Caps score. We have ordered a pizza from them on occasion. Hasn't been too bad for us but lately getting ours from store - brand: Calif Kitchen or Screaming Sicilian. Saving between $5.00 - [close to] $10.00.

Papa John makes me uncomfortable by the way he awkwardly looks directly into the camera in his commercials.

I would blame stellar prices.

My local store told me that they will not deliver their smallest pie. I had to order a larger size for delivery. And then they add a delivery charge - that the driver does not get - so they are expecting the customer to tip another three dollars or so? No wonder I haven't completed a delivery order in years.

No thank you.

I had said that the last time I saw a PJ commercial. There was just something about him that made me uncomfortable.
