Freezer. I take out a slice as needed and toast it.
Exactly - and you don't have to toast it "all the way" if you don't want actual toast. Using the toaster to unthaw it just ensures it won't be soggy (like if you'd microwave it).
Out! The refrigerator makes bread go stale very fast. Either keep it out, or put it in the freezer until you need it.
We can't keep it out of the fridge. It's so humid here it molds in just a couple of days. It goes on the freezer or fridge if there is an immediate use for it.
I buy a new sliced loaf, and split into about 3 or 4 stacks of 7: put them all in freezer bags, write the dates on, and then put them in the freezer. So much more convenient and less waste
Freezing is the only way to preserve fresh bread. Slow cooling in a fridge actually speeds up the bread going stale. Bread becomes hard when the starch crystallizes as it cools from the oven and freezing keeps the crystallization to a minimum. Learned this from Chris Kimball.
Oddly enough we don't freeze sliced bread but we do freeze bagels, Italian bread and assorted rolls and such. We leave them in the bags that we carried them in from the store and then put those bags inside of a paper grocery bag. We found the perfect setting on our microwave for defrosting these and they stay very fresh for about a month.
Freeze it. On days when you know you need bread take out the slices you need ahead of time to let them thaw or if last minute put the frozen bread in toaster oven to thaw.
How do you store store-bought sliced brown or white bread ?
I used to store inside refrigerator- but since I started keeping it out-it stays softer for longer .
Is there any recommendation one way or another ?
I can't say which is the right or wrong way but I personally prefer to keep my bread in the refrigerator and if I have more than 1 loaf, I like to keep the unopened one in the freezer.
