I watch PBS too. Food Network became like MTV. MTV replaced real Music Videos with snowboarding and "scripted-reality"; Food network replaced solid "stand 'n' stir" with competitions. It was one reason we got rid of cable; it was one of the few cable-only channels we watched.
Generally, I have found the videos on YouTube to turn out a lot better than what you get off the various food shows on TV. You generally get better techniques.
for me it isn't so much learning, it is just the fun of watching. I did watch an episode of Pioneer women this morning.
The problem with Food Network is that it's all about the on air personalities. Now, if you can win a competition show, you're suddenly a food expert. I agree, it's getting old, same for HDTV and TLC, only so many house flipping shows, and fat shows before it gets overdone. IDK, maybe they've gone as far as they can.
It's only an hour, but I record The Chew every day. The 5 hosts are are fun, real cooks. And have some good recipes. You usually have to suffer through a celebrity plugging something, but it's still not bad. I like to watch Gordon Ramsey's show with the children, Master Chef.
I do not watch the Food Network much any more, after the way they treated Paula Deen, and then stuck in some other old girl in her place, like we wouldn't notice. I can't stand Bobby Flay or Giada, and I can't even remember who else is on there.
Yes you are right that now a days all TV shows related to anything say cooking..they only focus on the competition..not to teach anything..if you want to know about the recipes and how to cook..you can choose other option like there are many cooking sites are there from where you can learn lots of things rather than TV..

Most are gone. I agree about Paula even though I didn't really like her. Bobby isn't bad, Giada drives me nuts. I do miss Ina, and Melissa but more than anything I am tired of the competition shows every day and every night or watch Guy do his thing. it is all getting old. Even Bobby has that stupid show where he competes against someone else. The one I still like is "Future star; problem there: the winner is never seen again. It used to be, they got there own show for, at least, a while.
