I have really been loving these Doritos Loaded things:

And on the box it says not for microwave and intended for oven use. Thing is I have always used the microwave on them and they have tasted excellent, but is it really bad for you? I have put 8 on a plate and microwaved for 2:30 and they have tasted great otherwise.

Well .. apart from the fact those are highly processed and probably not that good 'for you' .. if you have tried to prepare them in the microwave and you like the result .. that's fine. They won't kill you if you microwave them.

The only reason the box says don't microwave is likely that the company tested them in both the microwave and oven and the results were no doubt much crispier in the oven - and they figure most people will like them better that way. They can't offer the same results in both so rather than explain that, they just say oven only.

I'm sure those things are delicious and I'm as guilty as anyone else when it comes to eating stuff like that. That being said, how many ways can we find to kill ourselves with food in this country?

As far as the original question, I always make things that are intended to be crispy in the oven. The extra wait time is worth it IMO. If I'm going to clog my arteries with terrible foods I make sure I get as much bang for my buck as I can!

If there are oven/stovetop directions anywhere on the box, I use those methods in lieu of a microwave. If I can avoid using the microwave, I do!

There's nothing wrong with using the microwave when they recommend the oven, except that the meal you fix is likely to turn out mushy and soggy. It's not dangerous, just unappetizing.

My guess. Not every item is intended for microwave use because of the cook times and could possibly have a thread or two of foil which could ignite in your microwave.

However, if you've already done this with your particular item we can either believe it's safe to do so or that you don't mind them done that way. I'm guessing that you have done this for that particular item more than once?

I'm sure that we've done something like that as well, as it was the quickest way to a hungry tummy. Although I can't recall now what that may have been.

Oops, re read your post and see you took items out of box onto a plate and then in microwave. Some people might have put box in microwave, which could have ignited. Anyways, if you liked them the way you did them, who can argue? It's you that's eating them.

It will make your microwave smell like sweaty gym socks, but otherwise, not dangerous.

Addicted to them, are you? Just imagine licking a moist, sweaty gym sock each time you bite into one of those.

yuck?????

my god the poster asked about cooking methods not a commentary and we've had a majority of commentary not what she asked,,

this is no worse than a cupcake and id rather eat these 100x more than evil peas or turnips.... there,,,thats my commentary

to the op....if you have used these with success in the microwave keep doing it,,

the optimum may be heating in the oven (that's how they taste test these )

microwaves are fine,,, unless its a raw product like a burger,,,
