Had wife buy some corned beef brisket on sale at groc. store. Told them ahead of time she would and I wanted the flat, I'm gonna smoke it(I smoke everything). Got it home and it sure looked like the point. Anyway I smoked 3 of them and left 2 in the fridge. Total CRAP! I just smoked one of their other brands and it was fantastic, this was total crap, and they knew it.

I get along w/them all great, joke w/them, listen to problems, answer questions on smoke'n food, etc. ALL OF THEM, small groc store in town of 3500.

Call up meat guy and he figured I'd call. I asked if I could bring back the 2 that I haven't opend and that was fine. I told him I'd buy enough meat to help since I brought it back, never have done that.

I bought a 15# prime rib, $112. The assistant meat guy carried it up to the counter for me. I said "what the hell, don't you trust me?"(in a joke'n manner) He said they are supposed to do this for anything over $100. I'm the type that I just don't "walk out", I will give someone a hard time, tell the ladies up front good-buy, etc. When he took it to the check out I even joked that nobody trusted me and he had to carry it for me. She said(friend of mine) that they have to do that over $100 in meat. I said it was $12 over! (still joke'n)

Last fall('07) I bought over 200#'s of brisket and boston butt to smoke for a banquet I did. I could have gotten it cheaper but knew they'd take care of me.

This little "deal" kinda pi$$ed me off. If they don't trust me, should I go back? I mean really! They all know me and my family, do they not trust me?

your opinion greatly appreciated. Thanks

I can understand your frustration. I think I would talk to someone calmly, the butcher or whomever you feel would best handle this. Just remind them you are a regular customer that has spent a lot of money in their store and also remind them you could have gotten this meat elsewhere cheaper but chose not to. Tell them all you ask for is some respect and trust and explain. Just be calm but to the point.

I would find this very insulting and I would not go back unless there was no equivalent place to shop. I would also tell the owner why I wasn't coming back.
I know that businesses need to protect themselves from thieves, but I won't even go to a store that has those detectors in front when you go in because if they think I'm going to steal, then I don't want to be their customer.
