I cleaned out a cabinet and found some ancient - so old I do not know when they were purchased - flour and corn meal. They have been kept in Rubbermaid plastic containers with tight lids and do not appear to contain any bugs.
Toss them or use them?
They were hidden by some seldom used pots and I forgot they were there.
Flour goes rancid. It develops a musty smell and a bad taste that will ruin whatever you bake.
You can smell it for yourself or put a little on your tongue and taste the horrible flavor.
Buy fresh flour and store any that's left from your baking in the freezer.
Everyone here knows the right answer, and it is to get rid of that stuff.
Even if I put my flour in a gallon sized bag, and the bag goes into a big lidded Tupperware conatiner, I always date the bag when I open it and 6 months later its gone..
Leave it in the fridge to ensure nothing crawls in and lays eggs.
