Hubby and I just had a typical dinner. Two boneless porkchops, two potatoes and a bunch of asparagus.
Still, too much food!
We have long ago been splitting a steak, but tonight, I'm wondering ...should I just make one potato and one pork Chop with a bunch of veggies? Are we weird, or what?
I guess my question is..how much do you make?
We always split a baked potato. I eat 4 oz of chicken or steak. He eats more. And usually about a half cup of whatever veggie.
I tend to aim for 50% of my plate as veggies, and the rest split up between proteins and grains/starches.
Now I am working on losing weight so I aim for 3-4 oz of protein and 1/2-3/4 cup of the starchy items depending on the meal. I generally eat 1 cup of cooked or 2-3 cups of raw veggies with lunch and dinner. In an ideal meal I have 2 or 3 kinds of veggies.
I would have one pork chop, no potato, asparagus, and a big green salad.
Husband would have 2 pork chops, 1 potato, asparagus, and a big green salad. Then ice cream later.
I have to watch my weight. He can eat and eat and eat and eat.

With my husband and me it is usually the other way around: he often eats smaller portions than I do. I try and encourage him to get a second helping after he is done.
I have been following weightwatchers lately. I did by a food scale and that has been illuminating sometimes (how much chicken you can eat, how little of other ingredients you want.)
I don't take any of this into consideration. I make enough so that I'm full when I eat. Anything else is put aside for leftovers and I'll eat it again.
I'm not about to make a nice dinner, finish it and still be hungry.
It depends upon your weight, OP. If you are both overweight, you are eating too much. If you are both at ideal weight, you are eating just right.
How much you eat depends upon how active you are and your individual metabolism.
A lot depends upon the size of the pork chops and the size of the potatoes. If those are the thin cut chops, 2 chops is no more than a regular size chop. Potatoes can range from a couple of ounces to over a pound. If you are cooking the giant baker potatoes and eating two of them, that is a lot of potato. If they are the little boiler potatoes, two of them is a reasonable size serving.
