This sounds like the concept of pop-up restaurant fad that was going on in Chicago a few years back. A chef would announce that he would be appearing at an undisclosed location and serving a particular menu. You buy a ticket through an app and on the day of the event, they will e-mail you the location of the event.

Like any of these "disruptive" technologies, it worked OK until it did not. A couple of these "chefs" sold tickets to events that were never held.
