An offshoot of something I was reading elsewhere made me wonder if adults are ordering kids meals?

There are times that I would, if I'm not that hungry or if nothing else is really appealing. But they are usually limited to age 12 and under, and in some restaurants, they even say 10 and under. A couple of places we go have them labeled for kids and seniors, so that's another option, but I still don't fit either category.

Just curious whether there are other adults who are ordering kids meals at restaurants, or at least might if they were given the option.

Ironically, McDonalds is one place where I know there is no age limit, and on the rare times I go there, I mostly do order a kids meal. It's enough food, you get a very small portion of fries but not an obscenely large portion, plus apple slices. I save the toy to bring home to my kid or if we are together, then he gets two toys.

This doesn't answer the question but... I have seen kids who apparently order off of the hungry-lumberjack menu.

Nope, the last time I had a kids meal was in grade school.

In many restaurants, the kids' menu is a grilled cheese or chicken fingers or something bland and boring like that. If I want a smaller meal, I just eat less of what I ordered and take the rest home for leftovers.

Yes, I'm usually very happy to bring home leftovers, and I tend to order with that in mind. But sometimes we are on our way somewhere else, and I can't leave leftovers sitting in the car. In that case, I will usually order an appetizer rather than an entree, if I know I don't want that much. But while I wouldn't order grilled cheese or something like that, it would sometimes be nice to just have a small piece of grilled chicken and a side, and that won't be an appetizer option.

But yes, I think that the reality is that mostly adults don't order from the kids menu, even assuming the restaurant would allow them to order that way. However, I am still curious to see if others have the same obsevation/opinion.

A real tightwad.......mid 20's, 3 young boys, abused the kids' meals.

He said he and his wife would go to McDonalds and order each kid a kids' meal ( drinks came with)

Him and his wife would order just a burger ( no drink) but drink the kids' drinks and keep getting refills.

Never, if I feel the need to consume a smaller portion, I order a 1/2 serving or an appetizer.

I usually don't, but I will occasionally order just one kids meals for both of my kids (who are 9 and 6) to split because often the portion sizes of even the kids meals are huge.

In all the restaurants my family was involved with, we do not allow anyone but children to order off the children's menu.

The kids menu is a money losing area of a restaurant but we much be able to provide food at a lower cost for kids.

FWIW our current menu is not hot dogs or mac and cheese but things like free range, organic chicken fingers for 3.99.

It isn't a portion issue.

I'm with david...
I use to go to mcdonalds with my son and his friends and say order whatever you want from the dollar menu and I would too..

think the most I consumed was 6 double cheeseburgers in one sitting ...

the kids ordered way more than they could eat and I didn't want to see it go to waste,,,
and didn't want to save any remnants from mcdonalds so the other mothers could be food snobs...
