As long as the flavor is the same, I don't have a size preference.

No - I don't like chunks much bigger than a small bite. I HATE having to cut up stuff in a salad.

Not to say I want everything shredded either, but I want to be able to have a couple things on my fork at once - not just a big piece of chicken or a big piece of tomato or cucumber by itself - I want the combination of ingredients on each forkful with the greens included.

For me, a lot of it depends on how I'm consuming it. If I am eating a chicken salad sandwich, for example, I like the texture to be smooth and pieces small; if I am eating a scoop of chicken salad on greens, however, I like it with larger pieces (though not any larger than bite size).

ha ha, true! But the toppings all need to be chopped.

Butter lettuce
Crumbled blue cheese
tomatoes
Walnuts
Bacon bits
Olive oil dressing with minced garlic
Sometimes red onions
And of course avocado!
Toss and eat. Fantastic!

Very glad to hear I'm not alone! I should print this out and put it on the fridge so next time he asks me something dumb like that, I can just point to it.

tidaldream, you expressed that perfectly! With the big pieces of chicken in it, you have to chew, and chew, and chew - by the time it's swallowable, it's just plain blech!! When eating a salad type sandwich, I want each bite to have equal amounts of ingredients - be it egg salad, tuna salad, chicken salad, whatever.

Oh - CSD610, I will enjoy the company!!!

We had a local restaurant that really made some wonderful dishes. However, they made a mayo-based chicken salad with large (maybe 1.5" - 2") chunks of chicken breast. The problem with the large chucks is that they would allow excessive amounts of mayo to gather in the crevices between the chunks. We ordered the chicken salad sandwich one time, but never again. In the display case it looked so rich and creamy, but that was just WAY too much mayo.

I don't like big chunks. I prefer small pieces. Chopped salad is my cup of tea. I usually have to cut up the lettuce in a salad because it's cut for a rabbit. Yup, I eat my salad with a fork and knife. Everyone doesn't have a flip top head so they can't open their jaw 10 feet and shove food in.

Noted for future reference tonight at work.

In the meantime, in the salad spinner discussion, I have noted how I like to break up the lettuce for a salad.

I made this post about salad preferences a short time back:
