My favorite fruits have always been cherries, pluots and watermelon (pretty much in that order. I particularly lobe Ranier cherries, but when I can get regular cherries for less than $2 per pound, I just can't stomach the $5.99 - $6.99 per pound for Ranier cherries. Hence, we rarely get them.

I'm in sprouts the other day (where cherries were $1.48/lb) and went over to get some pluots. They had something I've never seen before - yellow pluots. Bought two. Damn those things are good and juicy. I recommend covering your top with paper towels before your first bite. Best of all, they were the same price as regular pluots. I drove the 14 miles each way to get more the very next day!

OTOH, the black velvet apricots were not good. Although they are a cross of two fruits I like very much (apricots and black plum), these things just were not tasty.

Sprouts was where I discovered Opal apples, one of my faves. It's also my cheapest source for honeycrisps. I'll have to check and see if mine has these yellow pluots, I'm going soon for the $1.99 for 18 oz. blueberries. I'm so glad it's finally blueberry season, they can be so pricey other times.

And don't forget to buy Donut Peaches (AKA Saturn Peaches) when you see them. They are incredibly juicy and flavorful.

I love Pluots!!

And I just finished a bowl of Ranier cherries - for $4 a pound they were worth the splurge!

Last month, I bought a couple pounds of Rainier Cherries for $1.89/lb at my local Asian grocery. They were fat, juicy, and very fresh.
