Soaking anchovies or Feta cheese in milk for ten minutes or so dilutes the salt, what can you soak the olives in to remove the salt?
I never tried, but would putting them in a wire mesh strainer and rinsing them under running water be sufficient?
Olive oil is healthy, but with all the expensive and fake olive oils occupying the supermarket shelves, the only way I can be sure of real olives is by buying them whole, but which ones are the healthiest?
That's what I would do. Rinse the olives if they seem too salty.
I do shake a lot of salt off of roasted and salted nuts. I put them in a strainer and shake until a lot of the salt fall through the strainer. I like the taste better when there is only a trace of salt. You can buy almonds with only a trace of salt.

I'm looking at my post you quoted and wondering why the heck I was so timid about using the strainer for the olives as well before asking?
I was using a strainer to wash salted nuts under the faucet for the longest time...what happened!
Maybe I got a little caught up in the rookie part of the thread title!
BTW, I only wash a small amount of nuts as they will eventually start to become soggy.
I always thought that if they did, I would just throw them into a warm oven for a bit, but they never seem to last that long!
I've been eating some plain black olives lately (public eateries) and actually seems to help with my digestion.
I don't think it's the salt, because I've been eating salty foods for a while now, maybe just a coincidence.

Look at the bottom of a tin of nuts -- lots of salt that got shaken off, with no water involved.

Good point, and thanks BTW.
There is still some salt residue on all of the nuts, especially the ones sitting in the bottom of the can with all the salt shake-ins.
I only wash a little at a time and eat them quickly, so there is really no time for any moisture to have any effect.
Any exterior surface moisture on the nuts would aid in not having me to stop eating them to just to drink some liquid!
I don't really need to keep salt out my diet, I just try not to use it on foods that I really don't need it on to enjoy.
*I am, however, going to try the dry strainer technique today (thanks to this thread, I now have a huge craving), and will report back.

I usually do, but sometimes they just don't have them where I happen to be at the time, or I stumble upon a container of mixed ones that look really good.
I tried using the strainer w/o water this morning and it works well, don't think I'll be rinsing them again.
