I make my grits with chicken stock, milk, and lots of butter.

They don't need anything else after that.

If you'd like less savory grits ..slice up a banana in buttered grits and then mash them together.
Interesting post.
  • I'd never heard of "pan" sausage.
  • Hamburger is something I probably wouldn't have thought of.
  • I almost always choose butter, but only occasionally cheese.
  • Bananas! Can't even imagine that taste combination, but I'll have to give it a try. Do you use sweet ripe bananas or the more green?

I eat my grits with crispy bacon. I mean I literally eat the grits using my bacon as a utensil. Efficiently delicious!

Once while on a trip to Montgomery, AL, I was with some work mates having breakfast at a Waffle House.

I've eaten grits from childhood--normally prefer them with bacon grease--but that morning on a whimsy I tossed a dollop of jelly on them.

The waitress saw it and came to a complete stop. Then she chewed me out on the spot for "ruining a perfectly good plate of grits."

Shrimp and grits!

Shrimp and Grits Recipe | Bobby Flay | Food Network

I use half cream and half water for the grits. It's rich but very delicious

Tomorrow, I think I will try a slice of Spam, but I don't expect the combo to work as well.
  • Kielbasa?
  • Shrimp?
  • Steak?

Grits, eggs, and potatoes. I considered this to be the perfect breakfast when I was growing up, and we only had it on special occasions.

It's too carby for me now, but I remember loving that combination.

Pan sausage...it's what we call sausage from a 1 lb roll or so , like Jimmy Dean's or Owen's country sausage made into patties. It's awesome with grits.

I know bananas and grits sounds weird but butter and salt and grits with ripe bananas is really good. My mother was from the Bahamas and British. They make grits along with many fish dishes as well as the banana thing.
