As for beans and soups I still, always do soups from scratch including using dried beans or whatever. I also make my own meat balls. Sometimes I will make up a bunch and freeze them. I am inclined to do this more in the fall when the weather cools down. I have had some frozen ones that aren't bad, but i like more meat and less filler in mine.

I have made my own meat balls most of my life but now just can't stand in kitchen and do this anymore, and it's only me...so I've tried some frozen meatballs from Trader Joes over the last few years and lately bought a bag of Cooked Perfect Brand Angus Beef Meatballs at my major market. I take 2-3 out and let them thaw and have them with broccoli or chayote squash. They are very tasty..I just can't do what I did most of my life,,back and knees won't let me.

And the market's deli section carries pretty large meatballs in tomato sauce and will buy a couple and eat half when I feel like some. They also sell a nice wild salmon filet and I get those too.

totally agree. I love to cook, guess I will take some of my cookbooks, and the recipes I keep in my brain to heaven with me, but I also, in honestly do enjoy the convenience of so many foods. Like you, most of my cooking is from scratch but I always have prepared or semi prepared foods for times when I just don' want to spend hours in the kitchen or when we have been out all day.

Same here. I don’t make pizza, for instance. If I want fried chicken, I’ll buy it before messing up my kitchen making it.

I guess we all make decisions based on our own needs and time constraints.

But isn’t great to know that we can cook if we need to? I’ll bet most of us can rustle up good food straight out of fridge and pantry with no recipe. But, I guess that doesn’t mean we have to all the time.

The last time I was interested in a new meatball recipe, I didn't feel like standing in the kitchen forming and cooking individual meatballs, so I followed the recipe but baked it as a meatloaf, freeform on parchment on a half-sheet pan. It was really good. This is the recipe, FWIW, but I imagine the process is universally applicable.

I make a lot of Ice Tea, Lemonade, Orangeade, Limeade during Summer months.

It's simple to do, but tastes so much better if you make a sugar syrup rather than adding raw sugar.
A light syrup; 1 cup sugar to 2 cups water...bring to a boil, stir, let cool.

Same syrup I add to home canned peaches.
