That looks wonderful - what's the brownish strips in the middle? Jerky?

Not for the poker boys. They want beer, pretzels, chips. . . But for cocktails before dinner for a more culinary crowd - BRING IT ON!

That was my thought. Doesn't look like a poker crowd, but maybe girls night in with a few bottles of wine! (Filing this away in my mental box of ideas)

I wanna be part of YOUR girl's nights - mine just makes boxed brownies and Pimento dip.

LOL! I was so distracted by the platter that I didn't see the link!

I would go with scotch, cigars, and nudie magazines. Can’t go wrong.

Default Good for guys for Poker Night?

Host (which obviously means hostess &#128527 provides dinner for about 8 guys. Looking for a different idea maybe. Must be prepared in advance since this hostess bails and heads out to get sushi (which host does not like).

These have been done frequently and recently:

Sandwiches
Baked ziti with meatballs and sausage
Pulled pork sandwiches
Pizza (delivered)
Wings (this was messy and won't be repeated)

I thought of a taco bar, but that will be a mess, too.

Any other ideas?

Cuban chicken corn pie, takes time, but can be made in steps over a couple of days, actually tastes better if made ahead. Black beans as a side.

Ropa vieja, another Cuban dish, again can be made in steps ahead and reheated. Served with rice and black beans.

I can post recipes if you want for either of those. We love both dishes.

Appetizer meal with things like potato skins, crudites (if they'll eat veges), small or mini pigs in blankets with a mustard dipping sauce, deviled eggs, spiced nuts, snack mix, cheesy beer dip with pretzels, meatballs with chimichurri sauce, meatball or hamburger sliders, charcuterie/cheese board.

A cold-cut bar with various meats and cheeses, a couple of kinds of breads, a couple of different mustards, mayo, ketchup. a few different pickles. Pasta salad for a side.

Chicken fajitas (will probably hold up better than steak) with roasted peppers and onions, guacamole, sour cream, etc.
