In Hawaii we always wash rice. We do find "things" in it.

I always rinse my rice before I cook it. It seems to make it less sticky.

My mother rinsed her rice. I've recently started rinsing also. It removes excess starch which can cause gummy rice.

I always keep an eye open for anything that does not belong. But that is hard to do with wild rice.

I've never rinsed rice. If there are any little micro organisms in it, rinsing certainly won't get rid of them. Cooking rice will kill any bacteria if it's present. Plus I like sticky rice.

Agreed. Washingthe rice eliminates the rice from becoming sticky.

Yes. When I don't, the result is stickier rice than I typically prefer. My husband never does, and the difference is obvious.

I don't wash white rice, but I do rinse Basmati and cull out bad grains.

i was raised to rinse the rice also. I distinctly remember seeing some people vigorously rubbing the rice between their hands but these days I seldom eat rice. When I do cook some, i give it a quick rinse or two. I thought I read somewhere about the risk of washing away what few nutrients might be in the rice.
