I used to buy it at Costco (one 16 oz bottle lasted I don't know how many years..) but when I went recently for my refill, I saw the brand had changed and the price is much, much higher - $29 for a 16 oz bottle. Since I haven't tasted it, I couldn't say if perhaps the price is higher because the quality is higher.

I ended up going with this option from amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Watkins-Origi...2Bextract&th=1

It was $11.33 (for 11 oz) when I bought it. I've never tried this brand either so fingers crossed!

I generally buy Watkins or Adams. Not a fan of Penzey’s.

I used to buy Mexican vanilla all the time when I lived in San Diego, & made Ensenada runs. Now I found one in Big Lots that's reasonable & excellent. It's called Back Bay. Be sure to buy the EXTRACT, not the flavoring, they often have both. They also have Watkins vanilla extract, really good, and the Watkins lemon extract is yum.

We always buy Watkins, and you can find it online these days and in select stores. But, any real vanilla is better than fake.

I've been making my own extract for years. It's so easy to make, and lasts for a long time. I use vodka and my last batch I also made one jar with rum.

Nielsen-Massey is my favorite. On the pricier side but worth it. I buy mine on Amazon and it's about $12 for 4 ounces.

I'm another Penzey's double strength Madagascar person. I buy the big bottles and I'm doing my best to wait out the Madagascar crop failure this year. I've been "Penzey's-everything" for maybe 20 years. My girlfriend's place is a 5 minute walk to a Penzey's brick & mortar storefront.

Whether you get Watkins, Penzeys, Nielsen-Massey or another brand matters not, just make sure you get REAL, natural vanilla. I've tried them all and my personal favorite is Penzey's so try any real vanilla and find your own personal favorite.

Oh, and yes, the good ones are pricey. You get what you pay for in the case of real vanilla.
