Funny--but yes
Know people who put pumpkin spice in everything
Pumpkin spice belongs in pies and that is it
Hate it in candles, coffee, ice cream--whatever---
Funny isn't it. The colonizers (ok, "pilgrims" for you sensitive folk) made pumpkin pie because that's all they had to eat and pumpkins are ridiculously easy to grow even in the cool summers of New England. Now we celebrate it even though we have far better foods to eat. Give me a pecan pie any day. Beats the hell out of pumpkin pie. Or a German marzipan torte. That stuff is made for the gods.
I just don't get the pumpkin spice obsession.
Trader Joes is the worst - they have everything from sausages to toilet paper to coconut water in pumpkin spice flavor.
OK the TP is very funny. Gotta share that one with a comedian friend of mine.
It seems to have taken over from hazelnut as the most-overused and lame artificial-flavoring-that-shouldn't-be-there.
EDIT - I see someone already called out TJs on their pumpkin monomania.
I know some liquor creators. They have threatened me with pumpkin vodka, beer, wine etc.
Exactly. According to the popular definition these days, Cincinnati chili is really just Pumpkin Spice chili. In fact, Greek food is just Pumpkin Spice food.
But those foods are not made with just those spices, and I'm guessing most people are not seasoning their Chili and Greek food with pumpkin pie spice.
Random fact, Dairy Queen's pumpkin pie blizzard gets actual canned pumpkin pie filling, and whipped cream with nutmeg on top. A true "pumpkin spice" product, also pretty good.

And I would expect something called "pumpkin pie" to contain actual pumpkin. That's probably why a lot of these items are "pumpkin spice" and not "pumpkin pie spice". Having pie in the description makes me think more about pie, and not just the spices. Kind of like the cream pie shakes at Sonics.

Actual pumpkin treats are yummy, I've been eating pumpkin flavored ice cream and donuts every fall for probably close on to twenty years. Now when I get a pumpkin spice whatever I check to see if it was made with actual pumpkin in it (except the coffee creamer of course, I'm content for that to be just spices, lol)
It's not even fake pumpkin that's the issue, it's the complete ABSENCE of pumpkin.
Some of the "pumpkin spice flavored" offerings are literally nothing but cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and sugar. Why this is deemed "pumpkin spice" and not, you know, "cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and sugar," appears to be the bone of contention.
It's probably because the ratio of these spices when used with one another is known as "pumpkin spice," whereas you could use a completely different ratio of the same spices and get a totally different flavor.
Don't care for pumpkin but yes, love the pumpkin spices.
Even the coffee creamers. Just glad they don't have pumpkin in them...pumpkin in coffee...???
UOTE=Delahanty;49900113]I read that article, and the writer's nuts.
I've never expected pumpkin to appear in pumpkin spice coffee, creamer, or whatever. Pumpkin is a gourd, and it's bland. What they're selling is pumkpin spice flavored products--the spices that are generally used to flavor otherwise flavorless pumpkin dishes. Sometimes I like it, and sometimes I don't. One thing I don't like, is pumpkin cheesecake. Now, pumpkin spice cheesecake? I'm all in. See the difference?[/quote]
