How does the OP not know about the use of hairnets and why they are worn by people who work in the food industry. Is the OP living under a rock? I even knew that answer as a little kid. No one wants hair in their food.
After catching up reading this thread, I'm no longer perplexed. I'd be a hypocrite if I didn't admit to having many times where something that is so simply obvious just escapes me. I'd be a snob and a liar if I thought my logic was the only unflawed logic in existence. I'd be a God if I knew everything. I am neither.
Back to the subject, just the thought of hair or anything else from the scalp contaminating my food is cringe-worthy. Yet, whether it be a restaurant or packaged products, I know the risk for hair/scalp and other contaminants to be in every bite. It should be a requirement to wear hair-netting in such jobs/industries, and grounds for punishment if caught without one.

I'm not too worried about contamination from hair in food, but the texture. Gag.
When I worked at subway we were required to wear hats and if our hair was long we had to keep it tied up in a ponytail or bun as well. I always keep my hair short so the hat was sufficient. When I was working in a school cafeteria we all had to wear hair nets even those with short hair.
