Yesterday in western Sydney the temperature hit 44c/ 110F. If we happen to get another day like that for Christmas no one will feel like eating much. One year when it was very hot our local McDonalds ran out of some types of food. They said that everyone was so tired from driving, they called in for a snack in the good aircon and people were complaining that they didn't want to go to lunch with the relatives. They would have preferred to just stay there and chill (literally!)
I am happy as I have my two big cassatas made and in the frig. Everyone can just lunch on cassata and chilled white wine if it is hot again.

well here it is close to 44 as well, but that is F of course. Our Christmas day looks like no snow or ice, but temps in the 30s. I just found out for sure what our granddaughter is serving:
turkey and dressing
ham
brussel sprouts and carrots, roasted
mashed potatoes
cranberry sauce
and I am taking Waldorf salad.
Christmas morning, I plan to make thick slices of cinnamon French toast (using sliced Texas toast that I found in the bread Isle), breakfast sausage links, maple syrup and butter and a sprinkle of powdered sugar on top of the French toast.

I HATE tropical climates and the holidays. Our weather finally got down to the high 70s - if it were a 110, I would hand out beer and chips.

Home-raised pork steaks with onions and gravy, mashed sweet potatoes in butter (home grown), ice-cold cinnamon applesauce (ditto), hot spiced apple cider, and home-baked pumpkin pie.
Makes all that work the rest of the year worthwhile!

May I invite myself
We had a similar Christmas one year in Georgia - pepped up frozen pizza and beer on the porch wearing shorts and tank tops. I love my freezer!
I'm headed to the "farm". Friends (who are Italian) Grandparents have a huge Peach farm in SC and they host the entire family (or as many as can come) each year - the last count was 36 this year and I've been adopted by Nonna and Pop. I can hardly wait. Nonna always makes me a big container of bolognese for myself. I'm the only "grandchild" that gets that special gift. 2 years ago there were 44 plus 11 dogs.... complete chaos and I've never had so much fun! NO WiFi so everybody participates in everything - no cell phones - snapchatting, FB or Instagram. Wonderful. Nonna (who is 83) has already started on sauces I'm sure and her daughters will be helping with other dishes, I bring desserts - Pop loves my peanut blossom cookies and I think I'm making butterscotch blondies too. we all arrive by Noon and last year I got home at 9:45pm... such a fun day. Major Mangia!!
