Monday will be the first time I'll cook dinner in my new home. I would like to make something special but not complicated either as I don't have much in terms of pots and pans (need to buy some). I do, however, have a charcoal grill. What would you make? (fyi, seafood dishes are out for me because I don't like it).
Hmmm. If it were me, and I had a grill but not too many pots/pans, I think I'd go with a nice steak on the grill. Maybe a baked potato and good salad to go with it, with a nice bottle of wine.
(Disclaimer: this is what I'm having for dinner tonight, without the potato, so it's on my mind this morning. LOL!)
If you eat meat, I'd grill either steaks or chicken. Steak - just put some olive oil and salt and pepper. If chicken, go boneless and marinate it for about 30 minutes in bottled Italian Dressing. Then slice up veggies of choice, cover with a little oil and grill them as well. Serve with a nice loaf of french bread and beverage of choice. I think our first meal in our first home was take out chinese, but we drank champagne with it - a gift from our realtor!
I don't know about you but when my kitchen was finally done I still had to get use to cooking on the stove, grill and oven. I went simple because of that. I also had gas before and my new kitchen was electric. Maybe steaks with baked potatoes and a green salad? I personally would not try a difficult dish until you you learn your new kitchen better. If you already feel comfortable with the appliances, steak would still be a good dinner!

msjones you're dinner tonight sounds YUMMY!! cyn i never thought about cooking on a "different" stove. my old stove and my new stove are both electric but my new stove is fancy compared to my old stove. champagne would be a nice treat kensgirl. we're wine drinkers but mmm.... champagne.
sounds like meat and veggies might be the way to go for a first meal.
Time to christen the new place, eh? Congrats on a new home. That kinda calls for one of two ways of thinking.
Food. The grill came with you so you must love to barbecue. That's a good sign. But you just moved and must be tired and really don't feel like fussing with cleaning the grill and all that goes with the set up and clean up. But since the grill is outside, you can leave it for the morning. I say one of two things: Either get out the crockpot and start a few potatoes in some broth, add some inexpensive cuts of meat cut into bite sized pieces, add a few pinches of your favorite spices, slice or two of bacon and get that going early on Monday morning. On Monday afternoon, pick up some lettuce, dressing, deli meats, cottage cheese and prepare a salad to go with your hot meal. Ought to include some eggs if you have deviled eggs on your mind for the picnic table. In the late afternoon, add some peas, corn or carrots tot eh crockpot and by dinner time, you'll have a hearty soup fit for a king. Serve with the salad, deviled eggs, maybe some garlic toast. The other line of thinking involves a steak. After all, you just bought a house and that calls for a really special meal.
Either way, a bottle of wine or champagne is in order.
I'm looking forward to it as a nice Friday treat, surfing! We're on a diet of sorts - that's why no potato - but meat and a salad are enough to make me a happy girl!
Definitely go with champagne Monday night, for sure! A celebration is in order!
