I grew up in NJ. I never liked Cream of Wheat. I live in GA. I don't like grits. Give me oatmeal and I am happy.

I believe the word you are looking for is "voila". You're welcome.

I've been to many a restaurant in the mountain states and rarely do you find grits on a breakfast menu. There are a couple exceptions though, one being the Waffle House restaurant chain. Another would be the Golden Corral on their weekend breakfast buffet (yea I know I'm a glutton for punishment lol) I do like grits though. Love Cream Of Wheat, oatmeal is ok-not my favorite hot cereal but I'll have a bowl every now and then. NOW-my favorite hot cereal--Maypo--and here's why!

Loved all sports as a kid--and in the early 60's a few sports stars did a commercial, just sitting at a table with spoon in hand and a frown on their face, crying out "I want my Maypo!" The stars? How about Mickey Mantle, Johnny Unitas, Wilt Chamberlain, Oscar Robertson, Ray Nitzshke, and Oscar Robertson? AND---Don Meredith!

Maypo, maltomeal, grits, cream of wheat, corn meal mush, ymmm. Oatmeal was probably my least favorite, although my mom would sometimes make hot grape nuts, which wasn't the best tasting thing I've ever had for breakfast, lol.

Oh, and rice, with a touch of butter and brown sugar for breakfast on a cold morning is great too.

I used to like it a lot. I haven't had it in years.

And what happened to cornmeal mush? Now people only seem to eat grits and not mush.

I like Cocoa Wheats w/ raisins > Cream of Rice w/ or w/out raisins > Gree-its >> Cream of Wheat, in that order. Never cared much for Malto Meal or Maypo.

My favorite breakfast as a kid was Cocoa Puffs in chocolate milk (I wouldn't drink milk unless it had Bosco in it).

Yes! I add honey instead of sugar if I have it on hand.

It was a favorite of my mother's, so I ate a lot of Cream of Wheat as a kid, but I never liked it all that much. Like you, I prefer grits, too. Salted, with lots of butter and hot sauce.

But recently, I bought a box of Cream of Wheat because I was growing tired of oatmeal, which I often make as a quick breakfast. I make oatmeal very thick, then thin it with milk. I tried making Cream of Wheat the same way, and found I quite like it when the texture was thicker.

Mom always just used a dash of salt in it and sometimes a little butter. I dose it down with cinnamon, brown sugar, butter, and some fruit, so it's a lot more filling than the way Mom did it.

Hmmm...Never heard of putting butter in Cream of Wheat. I know they add butter to grits in the South. My grandfather was from Tennessee. Where I live, people just add milk to thin out the Cream of Wheat if it is too thick...then comes the brown sugar, cinnamon, sugar, maple syrup, pecans/walnuts, raisins or other fruit. I'll have to give the butter a try.

Well, I am disappointed. I realized I was out of Cream of Wheat, so I'm definitely going to the store and buying some today. I swear, this thread makes me hungry for it in this cold weather!
