Perhaps she has a porridge-wallah working for her

And what happened to cornmeal mush? Now people only seem to eat grits and not mush.
What's the difference?

Look what this thread started -- so many people running to the store to buy Cream of Wheat. I hope that the OP bought stock in the company right before he started this thread.

Cocoa Wheats. In high school I would make a hot bowl of Cocoa Wheats medium soft and then put at least a fourth a cup of sugar on top or more and let it sit until it formed a sugary crust and sunk down into the cereal. Once it crusted, I topped it with milk and got my morning off to its typical sugary high. Malto Meal was my second favorite cereal - same process.

I'm tempted to buy some just to see what all the fuss is about. Honestly I've always thought it was just something that old people with no teeth eat.

Too funny! You took the words right out of my mouth, on both counts! (Mine is not a toothless mouth, though.)

REALLY??? I often intentionally use the word "wallah" or "viola" for effect. Don't assume someone is being a maroon.

When I went to school in England, we would have semolina porridge with fruit syrup for our mid-morning snack. The texture is similar to Cream of Wheat. Sometimes we would have tapioca pudding (frog spawn) instead.

I'm gonna pick up some one of these days, too. Remember it as a child, a lot of us probably ate it.

So what about instant Cream of Wheat, is it like grits and awful compared to the longer cooking type?
