We're still in nibble mode here. So many goodies around still.

Sauerkraut will be part of it for us too as I still have some of the Reuben dip left. It was quick to make and is quite tasty. We're eating it on cocktail rye. Good cheeses, cold meats, grapes, chocolates, olives, hummus and pita chips. Pickled eggs in beet juice from Daughter for DH.

Yes, the annual plague made its appearance at our house here earlier this Fall. Think it worked its way through the whole city as every time I went out I heard people coughing and sniffing. It started with the ache all over and then with lowered immune system morphed to head cold, chest cold and then is ending up with sinus problems.

First time in decades I've had it but this is also the first time in many years I wasn't taking Vitamin C and zinc in the Fall. Coincidence? IDK.

Get well soon all you fellow-sufferers.

DH brought home some navel oranges which are unmarked. Wish I knew what they were and I'd recommend them. The taste is unique and they are very juicy.

Pork & kraut here, too with mashed taters. Tradition for good luck in the new year! I love kraut. Yum. Baked apples, after.

Bratwurst cooked in beer, cabbage and potatoes, apple sauce.

Still not feeling well. Ginger tea, what's left of the cookies A Mandarin for me.

This was actually my New Year's Eve dinner ... take-and-bake pizza from my favorite local place. (I got it with pepperoni, then added onions, mushrooms, and olives ... normally YUM!)

Unfortunately, I left it in the oven a minute or two too long, so a lot of the bottom of the crust was burned. Since I HATE burned pizza crust (some call it "charred," I call it BURNED), I had to throw out more than half of it.

Today is my birthday. I typically have a couple of friends over for lunch but this year I am by myself. (Not a big deal.) I was planning on having leftover pizza for dinner tonight, but since that's out, I think I will make chicken enchiladas.

Happy 2018 to everyone! (And Sheena, I hope you feel better SOON, sounds like your bug is hanging around!)

DH decided fasting and sick do not go together...

Sear ahi with cilantro/avocado, roasted brussel sprouts with balsamic.

Cured salmon and cream cheese, pumpernickel, leftover smoked trout dip, and, of course, black-eyed peas. We did not make tamales today, though the pork filling is done. Cheers to all!

Today at the Case abode: New Year's isn't New Year's without black-eyed peas. I made them from fresh, with diced ham. Sided with corn muffins.

Happy New Year!
