I'm sorry to hear that, MissNY. She can load up on carbs and pasta and gain weight that way.

Miss NY, our prayers go out to your sister and your family. I had a similar situation and I was 92 lbs and could not gain the weight. I started eating little meals every 2 1/2 hrs. 1 soft boiled egg, 1 slice whole wheat toast, v8 juice, 1/2 cup decaf coffee with half/half. 2 1/2 hrs. later, a cup of soup, yogurt with fruit, small leafy green salad. 2 1/2 hrs. later 1/2 ham/cheese sandwich/cup of soup. Dinner ideas, spaghetti, ravioli, meatballs, sausage, bread salad, broiled fish/chicken, potatoes, green vegetables. If you need any recipes, let me know, I am working on my 2nd cookbook right now and will definitely help you to help your sister. After 4 mos. I went up to 115 lbs. It really works. God bless you in this difficult time.

MissNY so sorry to hear that. Agree with Kelsie maybe six mini meals a day plus some ice cream shakes with really high fat ice cream.

Blessing and prayers to your sister and your family.

Also consider boost, or ensure. Try the ensure with ice cream in it.

I am sorry to hear about your Sister and I hope the surgery goes well.

I would ask the Doctor, as if she has cancer but needs to put one weight , it would be better if she still gains weight with healthier foods rather than fatty and "bad" nutrition.

She will need to be as healthy as possible for the surgery and her chances of recovery and her body coping with surgical trauma will be ten-fold if all her "vital-signs" are in as good a shape as possible ( blood pressure, cholesterol etc...).
Her oncologist should be able to give her a balanced nutritional sheet with the right types of fattening foods.

I had Leukaemia for almost 10 years and diet is very important. But it has to be right.

I'm very sorry that your sister has been diagnosed with cancer.
A friend of mine had very good luck gaining weight by drinking Instant Breakfast with her meals, and yes adding ice cream to make a shake as well.

My thougts and prayers are with you and your family.

Try hearty soups - the stick to the ribs kind
Heavy breads with butter
Bagels with cream cheese
half and half with granola
Drink shakes between meals
Meats

In general also foods that are dense.

What worked for a friend of mine was lots of home-made food. Fresh homemade bread and butter with preserves...it just smells so good when it's baking that it's easy to eat and full of carbs. Plus you get fat and sugar with the butter and preserves.
