I'm normally a wine drinker, but as I just said to my hubby the other night when we were having enchiladas and beans and rice for supper, "Wine really doesn't go with tortilla chips. Shoulda had a beer." So, Mexican food for sure.

For me beer generally means yard work, pool, BBQ, done with week end chores or a winter stew.

Wine goes just fine with tortilla chips. You just have to pair it properly. Tannins don't go with salty so no big reds. You don't want a high alcohol 'hot' wine. A bit of residual sweetness to blend with spicy. You have to match the acid balance. Chips & salsa, a good riesling works. A Spanish fruit bomb or a Beaujolais would work.

Other than pizza/Italian sitting at the bar, I don't usually drink beer with food other than bar crunchies.

All of them? :P

Joking aside, I love spicy food, and although I like wine, I think beer pairs better with most really hot dishes.

Have been some interesting replies... its always fun to see others ideas and food - drink pairing choices.

I for sure enjoy a cold beer after getting after some yard work in the middle of summer like a few of you posted.

And yes a cold beer is the perfect match for a summertime cookout / BBQ ... makes no difference if its nice steaks being grilled up or simple burgers, brats or hotdogs.

I have really cut back on my beer consumption in my middle aged years. When I do pour a cold one into a frosted mug I take my time and savor it and appreciate it for what it is ... a wonderful treat brewed by a true craftsman and made for me to enjoy

Keep your thoughts and ideas coming ... its a pleasure reading them all !
