One time someone burned their popcorn in the microwave to such a degree that the smoke was billowing from the kitchen out into the whole lobby and up the halls - it was difficult to even take a breath. The microwave was literally toast.
Fish should be banned from break rooms it is the worse smell in microwave foods.

I had this boss who use to eat popcorn and I always smell burnt popcorn out on the sales floor.
She took the directions to the max up to five minutes and it always was burnt in that time frame.
I had to tell her you just listen to the pops if it barely popping after it has rapid pop then it is done or you will get burnt kernels.

I found for cooking popcorn at home if you turn the microwave and oven fan on high before and during cooking it helps reduce the smell in the home.

I only hate some brands of popcorn, but really not that much. Was surprised that the one that smelled the best (like real) tasted the worst - some organic brand. To me the total disgust in the office are garlic and onions, closely followed by fish. I normally like fish - just not in the microwave.

Anyone else just grossed out by microwave popcorn odor?
Me too - it's absolutely vile.
