glad a few of you are seeing cherries at a decent price. I priced them 3 places yesterday: Fresh Market, $7.99 lb: local market $7.49 a lb and farmers market, no weight listed of course but I can assure you they were probably close to $10 and we do not grow them locally, so they really were not from AR I am guessing. I think it was into July last year before we saw them at a price that was reasonable. Oh how I miss the great and less expensive So. Ca produce I grew up enjoying. It is one of the few things I miss about Ca.

But to us cherry addicts, that first bagful of the season is as difficult to wait for as a child's wait for Santa on December 24th.

Exactly
That and the short season for purchase where I live lead me to buy at the 7.99 price...
ours have not gone down. I don't buy even a pound each week for one person so not too bad costwise.

I've been more put off by the lack of ripeness of what I've seen than the rise. I'm gonna watch the Canadian Grand Prix then go to the market hoping there some ripe ones waiting for me. I miss the days when there was just a big box and you could pick and choose the ones you wanted.

LOL okay.
There aren't too many advantages to living in this geographic gulag; a long cherry season (which I took for granted until hearing about other people's short seasons), must be one of them.
I finally bought red dark cherries $3.98 Canadian a lb after 3 weeks of waiting. What a disappointment, not only are they extremely tangy but they are a bit hard as well.I thought they would be a great snack for my road trip.

Actually when we lived in CA growing up the season was pretty much late May until mid or late June. Yes, very short. Now, I guess due to so many options our season is not really even started to speak of. Last year we were getting them at their low point more like late July I think. They were about $2 or so per lb.

Dang! At least they're starting to look a lot riper but not the $7.99/lb riper they are in my local market, even the produce guy says they're not worth it. He tells me what he has are from Ca, that's why they're so pricey and they'll come way down as soon as Oregon starts shipping to us.
While shopping around at the Super Walmart, I saw $4.98 for a pound of cherries. I don't recall seeing the Bing name. The cherries looked good though.
