Their coolatas have this kind of gloppy base that’s really off-putting. And their coffee is horribly weak and watery.
Yet it sure sounds like you've tried everything on their menu.

I think more people go there for the coffee than anything. And it's amazing how many health conscious people will get that coffee with triple sugar or something.
Exactly. Dunkin' Donuts has been characterized as a coffee place that happens to offer donuts. Its coffee is a light roast blend, so it's different from the Peets' or other places that tend to be more medium and dark roast oriented.

Health conscious or not, people will eat anything they'll want.

I totally disagree. In San Fran?!!!! No one I know would touch either of those. Lunch time? Food truck please, or any number of the very good hole in the wall restaurants. Heck, I would get decent food from the small neighborhood market (croissant, fresh egg and veggies, or what not).

KK, the stores that do the best are the ones that are making the donuts in house, which I think is most. We've got one here that opened 6 days before I was born.. Place is 44 years old.. Still going strong. Their fundraising arm actually brings them alot of business. Sell the donuts cheap to a group and they resell and keep the profit.

DD.. I don't think there's any of them that are making the donuts in house.

Default an Dunkin Donuts do good business in health-conscious San Francisco Bay area?

Of course it can. Bay area is not that different from other places.

Portland is supposed to be health-conscious too, and look at how Voodoo Doughnuts prospered.

The idea that San Francisco and its surrounds are somehow immune to the siren call of sugar-laden indulgences cracks me up! The Bay Area is where I had my first Peanut Butter Yum, a smoothie so rich and sweet that I nearly needed a shot of insulin afterward. And, yes, there are plenty of donut shops in Northern California.

Personally I would eat donuts every day if there were a donut shop close to my house.
There are more calories in a can of campbells soup then there is in a donut.
Do the supermarkets sell soup there?

Right, it's often a choice of DD or Starbucks (at least in non-Wawa states, lol). I try never to go to Starbucks because it's too bitter and expensive, and on the occasions I had no choice (airports) I always seemed to be behind someone getting the most complicated and time consuming drink possible.

Many working people don't make enough to do that, or it takes too long. We get 30 minutes for lunch where I work. If they have stores, nursing homes, gas stations, auto parts stores, etc in San Fran, than they have people making less than $10 an hour working there who get 30 minutes and punch a time clock.

Yeah. I generally don't make it a habit to get coffee while I'm not travelling, as I have a machine at home to brew my own. I generally prefer darker roasts so DD isn't really my go to flavor or type.

I live in the SF Bay Area, and while there are many people who are health-conscious, I don't see fast food eateries in the area going out of business at all. We got McD's, KFC, Burger King, Krispy Kreme, you name it. So DD can make a go of it - they face the same problems and challenges like all food and restaurant chains here - high costs and staff retention.
