I like to get a block of sharp cheddar cheese (say about 4 oz. at a time, cutting an 8 oz. block in half) and eat it straight. I cut pieces off of the cheese with a knife than eat them. I can't do it with mild cheddar, too bland. Does anyone else do this?

Yep cheddar and block real parm especially. I always have to have a few nibbles when I grate parm.

Yes, we do it all the time in our house. We eat other kinds this way too. I don't think this is unusual.

Cheese is for eating. One can consume it in whatever manner seems best at the time. No one's permission or approval is required.

Pepper Jack for me

Need some zing on those crackers. 8OZ doesn’t last long.

My grandfather used to go to Makro (predecessor to Costco) and buy giant deli blocks of white American cheese. When my cousins and I were peckish, grandma would put the block on the dining room table and hand one of us the cheese slicer. We'd try to slice the cheese as thin as possible. Sometimes we'd work our way through half a block.

I prefer more interesting cheese as an adult, but I will always remember that.

Every time we have a picnic - we cube up a variety of cheeses to include in a crudité platter. Rolls of thinly sliced prosciutto, salami, grapes, olives, sausage, tomatoes, pickled peppers, and crusty bread. Always a crowd pleaser.
