I'm curious, are blue fish offered commercially up north? I've caught them here, but they were so beat up from their migration, the flesh was rather mushy, so no one I know ever eats them. When I spearfish, I target 3 fish, black grouper, hogfish and mutton snapper. Thank goodness for hogfish as black grouper are few and far between. Not fond or red grouper, too many worms and Nassau grouper are protected. We do have 5 species of lobster, of which only 1 has a season which begins this coming Monday. The only restriction on the others is no females with eggs.

I could not stop thinking about this thread when I was shopping at Fresh Market yesterday. While I was trying to make up my mind as to what kind of fish I wanted this lady came up to the butcher and asked for trout. The butcher showed her the steelhead he had and she insisted she had gotten Rainbow there a few weeks ago. She informed him she had bought Steelhead before and hated it. She didn't like pink fish. He assured her they had not carried Rainbow for a year or more. Well after she finished, again telling him she knew he was wrong she saw the Cod. What did she do, but ask him if it was fresh and when it was caught? of course he told her, it wasn't fresh as we don't have much fresh fish her except for Catfish and Rainbow trout. Then she started again why, if we had it here, didn't he carry it? When he tried to explain it had to do with his supplier, she wanted to know why he didn't get a better supplier? At this point she decided she would not buy and fish. He and I just laughed after she walked away.
