It pays to read the ingredients in order to avoid that poison.
Ya, it's garbage. Cheaper for them to make. We never grew up on soda so I never drank much of it or got addicted to the stuff thankfully.

I drink unsweetened iced tea mostly, but some days when I want some fizz, sweetness and a jolt, I'll get myself a some diet pepsi. I'll drink my way through a six pack in a few days and then go another couple months without having it. I've found when I'm stressed around deadlines, i tend to crave the diet soda.

Quit years ago. I’ll drink probably one can of Coke every 6-8 months. I like water, coffee and quality beers.

Nope. I drink a Pepsi every morning instead of coffee when it's hot out.

All things in Moderation... including Moderation. I have no intention to alter my eating/drinking habits as long as I continue to be in good physical shape. I don't pay any attention to the demon-food (or "super-food") du jour. Make reasonable, adult decisions and, absent pathology or its predispostions, most people should be fine.
